Viva HB

Postby opelscott22 » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:50 pm

Ive had this HB for over a year now and Im finally getting round to doing somthing with it... :D
After getting the car home I had a poke around and found a few nasties, its had a fair bit of fiberglass and filler in its time and all wasnt as it seemed.
The car needs new wings, repairs to the inner wings, the rear arches are mostly fiberglass. The doors are good, floors good and its got a rust free bootlid and original sills.....lets see what else I find!!

Heres the car as I got it.

Plans for the car are to get the shell back to perfect condition, I want to spend a bit of time on the repairs so I dont ever have to go back to it and undo the damage thats already been done....

Ive started on the drivers side front and Im just going to work my way round. I cut the wing off, it was full of mesh, fiberglass and filler, the dust was horrible!!! :( Ive stripped the underseal off the inner wing, its not too bad. just some surface rust. Ive done a repair to the hinge panel and the front of the inner wing.

Thanks people, I sold the other HB, regretted it ever since!! I sold the green HC aswell, this is the only Viva I have now! :D
I plan to put the same engine in as the HC had, an XE on bike carbs. I was very impressed by how it drove, good starting from cold and loads of power!!!oh, and 5 gears...

Excellent work, wish I could do bodywork like that! What you doing with the old engine/box?

HB's are sooooooo cool! (i'm not at all biased..)

We need more threads like this- its really good to see others out in the garage over winter months. Bl--dy glad mine is solid as I have had enough body repairs after that RX3!

I like the idea of moving battery- not because vivas are short on space but it does make an engine bay that much 'cleaner'- worked a treat in the mazda.

Cheers for the info tonight when I rang you Scott. I'm now looking at more wheels instead of finishing welding my arch....
