HB GT (before and after)

Postby bodyworx » Sun May 16, 2010 8:48 pm

well at Mr bottomleys request, ,,,, im gonna put up some pics of my current project.

For some background, its a 1970 HB GT
Last owner before me had it for 18+ years and during this time it had unfortunately became an 80's "custom victim"
Dont get me wrong , the mods were pretty good standard ,,but why !lol
I bought the car on 30th of December 2009 (MY xmas present to me!)
Needed a lot of panel work as it had been sand blasted before and had more than a few ripples to smooth out, panels were either new or really good so not much tinworm to deal with at all though back panel had been modified and needed replaced, but in general a solid car.but had sitting been off the road for over 2 years.

Its been 2 grand and 5 months of weekends , but i think its been worth it  :D
Its never gonna be concours, and its never gonna be a show stopper (yet) as I just cant find the parts i need just now, but maybe for next year

Car already has loads of really neat 'trick' bits and really nice mods ,a lot of which i still dont know exactly what / how he's done it :respekt: ,
A few Ive kept, a few ive enhanced, any one who knows me knows what im like!
Anyway, heres some before and afters up till now.;

Nice colour! That blue seems to be the in colour (the new black...) right now- especially that shade.

Its the colour I got it in (Pageant blue), Scott (OpelScott) has his blue as well, but I think he said it was Ford Electric blue ?
It had had a full shell inside and out and underside repaint about 10 years ago and the floors and underside are still pretty mint, so I didnt have the heart (or the patience to do the whole thing again in a different colour).

Still got the interior to rebuild once I get the crash pad back after getting recovered but that shouldnt take too long and then its MOT time on Saturday :goodideasign:

Very nice Andy , the effort has paid off :D .
I did like the previous mods though - rear/ front lights and the higher up fuel filler on the back n/s wing . Ive been contemplating relocating the damn fuel filler on mine - i must b getting old (er) cos its getting a pain to keep bending down . Were they shorter in the 70's or did everyone have a bad back :?:

Bloody hell!!! youve been busy since I was last down! :D

Car looks amazing, I really like the colour. I wanted to paint mine the same colour but didnt want it to be a GT copy...
Good luck with the MOT, cant wait to see it at the shows! 8)

Very nice !! :respekt:

Have you got any clearance problems or bump steer with the offset on the rims ??? Just wondering as they look to be a long way out in the arches. :?:
Hope your MOT goes well - can't see it failing, inspector will be too busy blinking in the reflections in the shiney paint!
Cheers

TO be honest Tony, not driven it on the road yet, so I dont really know.

Did have a little rub on the bottom of the front wing , but trimmed and reshaped it, now no probs!
Also helps with the Koni suspension all round, pretty stiff!
