I was thinking about getting some black and silver or black and white plates made up as my car is a 72, just wondering weather to bother, what do you guy's think?

Still got the original plates on my '72 Viva, and they are black on white, not silver on black. As far as I am aware few cars in 1972 had the 'traditional plates', and most were on modern ones (albeit of pressed steel). If I were you I'd at least get rid of the plastic plates, and replace them with steel plates, regardless of the colour.

I really don't like the plastic plates so I will probably look onto some Black on White steel ones.

Next Scenario  can I modify a car that is this original?

All I am thinking of doing is improving the ride and handling maybe a set of Alloy wheels so nothing that can't be undone. I said when I got this car that I would do noting to it, it seems I just can't help myself as none of my cars are standard

I dont see why you whouldnt do it? If that is what you want to do, and its just "bolt on" stuff so it can get original without problems i think you just should follow you mind.. :)

It's solid but needs a respray to make it mint, but it's just not worth spending the money on it :(

Thats looking lovely- I get warm fuzzy feelings when I see Vivas being saved- good work. Some nice period 13" alloys would set it off nicely :D Like Alex said you can always bolt the steels back on.

I got silver on black plates for my RX3 and they looked great!
