I do not think the heat from that welding will destroy much and if too ugly you can match both sides with spraycan underseal. This is an area that is not visible with the engine in place so I guess you make things worse than it has to be.

That's a good idea. I don't think the front of car is bent in any way - we did measure up both sides of the inner wings and chassis rails - it just seems to be the sleeve in the lower bit of the chassis rail that has absorbed most of the impact. The n/s/f top rubber axle mount looks very squashed in the old axle, an indication that the lower mount has moved.

Yes, we had trouble getting the other side in (we never did), but it was a lot closer than the side that is completely bent out, if we could get that one side in so that it was mounted up in 3 places that might just work!

Replaced the brake lines, and that hose at the rear which was a right £$%$%&* to get off without ripping the mount off the body.

Hopefully will have axle welded or something in the next two weeks, someone is coming on Monday to check out what could be done, I'm not a competent welder to do the job myself...

Meantime hopefully bending the damm 8mm without kinking it, also put the new clips in. Find a way to attach pipe to the sender too

Then fix electronics ready for lump, so take out interior and also check that i haven't buggered up the steering column trying to fit the axle.

Yep - that's a classic wheel clout at speed damage or a spin into a kerb .

Very straightforward repair if you have access to the right tools though.

Yep we got it on eventually, about a week or two ago, had to get a few people round to do it, we used blocks of wood and a large hammer to get things into place, we managed to bend it back into place.

Need to do the fuel lines which I am dreading, in the mean time have sprayed the bulk head cover and done a general clean up. Need to strip the interior and re fit everything with sound proofing ect, at the same time rebuild parts of the loom. Once thats done its a simple fit the engine (well I hope simple) and fine tuning.

Make sure you get the car checked - steering / tracking and castor angles - as this type of damage (if not put back to its correct position) can cause severe wear on tyres / stress on streering and suspension components.

Although we love our cars going sideways - just not when trying to steer in a straight line

The steering had to be aligned on the last axle, one of the first things i'm going to have done is the steering aligned, however there is a very big chance that it isn't going to be driven on the road and trailered to shows
