The previous owner said that the owner he bought it off stripped the engine out because water had leaked into the engine, and they thought it was the head gasket, but water had leaked from somewhere else, as the gasket was fine, any ideas where that would be from?

Are the different types of headlight inter changeable?

mine are rusty, so I guess they are the cibie type!

Is that the one that was for sale in Ormskirk?

Re. the water getting into the cylinders - my father-in-laws did that and it turned out to be corrosion in the head due to the fact that he never changed the antifreeze. It might be worth getting the head checked for flatness and pressure checked.

the inlet manifold seems mighty corroded, could this be the problem?







there is a replacement that looks in much better condition, its fitted with what looks like a smaller webber

is it a good idea to get hardened valve seats fitted, seeing as its already apart?

Looking at the manifold I would suspect thats where the water is getting in. Be a hairline crack somewhere. IF the engines in bits and the cost isnt too silly might as well fit hardend seats, but really depends on what you are going to use the car for. For weekends and fun, probably not worth it, if your up and down motorways all day, worth it. If the orginal carb is ok, use that, or get rebuild kits for them. The car dosent look too bad.

well I have decided just to build the engine up, if it turns out to be ropey, then it will be getting changed for a more modern engine, if the valve seats recess, then I can get the hardened valve seats fitted later,



ordered 4 axle stands, so thats a start

As soon as my membership is processed, I will start looking for parts!

managed to strip off all the running gear



and de rusted, painted, stone chipped, wayoyled the underside



painted the axle and replaced the pipes with kunifer



re bushed and painted the front crossmember, new shocks



removed and re painted behined the tank, tank was like new inside, all pipes replaced with new

Looking very smart. Be quite a rare car, not many 1800 Auto's, in fact come to think of it, not many autos of any model left.

sadly it is going to end up a manual, I will be fitting an 2.0 8v cavalier seh engine, though I still have all the auto bits!
