This is making me reconsider my original plans for the car, with it being rarer than i thought. I was going to put a 2.3 engine in with a 5 speed box (both of which i already have) but i'm thinking of refitting the 2.0 engine when i get to that point. Wouldnt mind still fitting the 5 speeder though, anyone know if a 5 speed getrag box from an FE victor will be geared ok for the 2.0 engine and axle?

I think the Getrag boxes are overdrive top, the Phase 2, 490 axle ratio is the same as the 1800 Magnum axle, which equates to direct top in 5th gear, I hope this helps, Steve
is there any cure for buying vauxhall cars

Turban and a beard and from Birmingham, now that rings a bell. I think many moons ago he had a lot of Sporthatches, bought them all up in his area. Bet it is the same bloke.

The Baz I got my sportshatch off had at least one more sportshatch three hpf's and a 1256 estate when I went to collect my car from bradford where he lives now and he's well known to the DSG.

Yeh but it's a slow game this one! Will be made a lot easier, quicker and cheaper by the decision not to mod it as much as i had previously planned. The baz i met didnt have a turban or beard, judging by that description i'd say that he was def from bradford! :D

Well an update on plans/arrangements for the firenza. Once the welding has been completed the car will be having the 2.0 engine refitted along with a single weber carb, gryphon exhaust and overdrive gearbox (eventually!). I 'd like to uprate the suspension with a set of the springs that paul cullum is having made, already got the fronts. Then a set of uprated shocks,if i can find any! My welder buddy has had a look at the car and reckons he can get on with it some time in november and have it done in 3-4days. So fingers crossed progress will resume in november! :D

Good news, sounds like a nice spec your planning, should make a nice quick car with decent handling.
