Thanks Peter, I'm very proud of my achievement so far. 8)

Just rubbing back the lacquer on the 'rough' bits and polishing to be done, but that will wait for a few months until it is really cured. :goodideasign:

Still on target to have an MOT by next May and a few miles of reliability testing before Billing 2014!

Here's my homemade GRP bulkhead panel ready to be fitted.

Image

I made this a couple of years ago just to get a refresher on using GRP before tackling bigger things on the Firenza.

I used a repaired rusty panel as the mould and laid up the GRP inside it. I reckoned that the thickness of the original steel wouldn't affect the fit sufficiently to make a difference.

All looking good.

Would reccomend only leaving it a couple if weeks before you flat and polish it. Will be very hard after some months and making it alot harder to get a nice shine back. It will of gone hard with in a few days.

That Bulkhead part is very good. You might find your self with a few requests for those.

Back from holidays and I colour sanded and buffed the paintwork last week. Everything looks great for being painted in sections. I was very careful to intermix the various tins of paint and finished up the last of the final tin on the doors.

Hmmm, is the door darker than the wing or the wing lighter than the door?

Image

Being a pearl colour the light, gloss level and bodywork angles make a vast difference to the perceived colour so I could only be sure all were correct when buffing was complete.

Image

I had my suspicions a few weeks ago when I saw this view

Image

And even more suspicious with this one

Image

Buffing just made the colour match better so sanding back both door and wing to remove the gloss was the only way to check.

Image

I reckon that the bottom of the final tin had some un-mixed red pigment and that has given the doors a slightly more violet colour. The only answer was to buy more paint and respray both of the doors and rear wings together, fading up to the roof and boot lid. The shape of the front wings disguises the colour variation extremely well so no need to re-paint them.

All complete now just buffing to do but the result is an excellent match and the colour fading has worked a treat. 8)

Finally decided what colour to paint the GRP rear bumper - the same as the rest of the car!!

Image

I had tried black and silver I even considered chrome vinyl wrap buy I think Arden Blue is the best option.
