It's stretchy enough for these bits but not enough for a bumper.....I've tried!

I had considered painting them black again but I really wanted to fit some Sport SL shiny bits, so I tried silver paint on one, still a bit dull hence the vinyl wrap.

This build was always about trying to build a real late '70's car and use as many original period parts as possible.

I just happened to have a set of these in the roofspace....



I bought them in 1979 from Larkspeed and stored them ever since. Fitted the rear ones this evening.

The big push is on! I enrolled on a welding class to learn how to TIG weld stainless and my project was this..



Fitted it today and all seems to fit. Used kenbo707's exhaust as a pattern, lucky he had it removed from his car at the time!

Today's job. Build the front suspension.

The springs are original DTV Group 1 Magnum, believed to have been use on one of Gerry M's cars! About 1 1/2" lower and a bit stiffer than standard Magnum.



Polybushes for the lower arm and castor rods to deal with the 9" splits!

The only heater I have is a Magnum one that requires an external valve fitted to the outside of the ventilation shroud. The early cars only had a flap that stopped the air passing through the heater rather than the hot water. I could either fit the ugly Magnum valve, put up with the heater permanently on or hide a valve somewhere inside the shroud.

Here's my solution.....





I used a VW Golf heater valve and modified the heater box to allow the cable through at a different location. I also had to trim the bend off the matrix top connection and fit a right angled bend.

Result? An early looking and tidier engine bay with the better, fully working later heater installed.

I fitted my home made headlining, rear screen and door glass. Well chuffed

Excellent work on the headlining. I am going to have to do that myself, how did you do it?

That headlining looks excellent. I wouldn't dare try anything like that, I know I'd muck it up.

Thanks guys. I used the old one as a pattern and Mum's old sewing machine to stitch it up. Cost about £35 all in. Not perfect but I'm £220 better off than a friend who paid a professional trimmer to do his!
