Thought id launch a broad side on the old girl, ive known for a while that the front chassis sections were bursting open just where the gearbox cross member mounts, but due to the arrangement of the chassis section kept putting it off.

after making too much noise i thought id give it a rest and started to scrape the underseal off probably giving myself more work, but strangely enough found it quite therapeutic, all in all not too bad so far.

Already done the o/s and tryed to replicate as best as how it was or rather should have been, made up from three sections, 2 sections over lapping the chassis section.

Very good, occasionally repair sections crop up for that area. Adrian might have some.

If they're the old Saltofix / Hadrian repairs sections Peter then (in my opinion) they're rubbish. They're made of 20swg steel compared to the original 18 or maybe even 16g, and are designed (and shaped) to fit over the existing chassis section, not to replace it. So you can end up with the whole weight of the back end of the engine and gearbox being held up by a single piece of steel that's too thin, instead of an overlapping section as original. Designed to get the car quickly through an MOT back in the day when they were just old cars. Nice to see this being done right.

The only repair sections i saw available were a little further back, around the seat base i think, that said i think they were HC.
Yes the steel size did concern me but after a measure, 1.45mm came closest to it, a quick trip to my brothers workshop we shaped up the correct size chassis section and with the right size steel, and the strengthening plate, i guess i'm fortunate that my brother is a steel fabricator, we also did the repair sections for rear inner and outer sills which were done earlier in the year.
