A Bit Of Remedial Work On The X14

Postby vivamad » Sun Jan 19, 2014 10:31 pm

Ok. I decided a week or so ago that I would find out why my X14 has sat low on the drivers side front for quite a while now. I first noticed this after I fitted poly bushes a few years ago, so now going back to normal rubber ones. But, as normal, you think, well while I have that in pieces I'd might as well do that and if I'm doing that, I'd might as well do this.
So this weekend, the car went from this.......

......... to this

The front cross member is also removed now

I need to get the calipers and steering rack to my local Motor Factors where they will be sent for reconditioning. Also need to sort this problem with the batttery tray.

Image

The drivers seat also requires changing due to the frame being broken.

Some of the other parts to be fitted...

Image

If anyone can help, I also need the window channel seal for the 2dr drivers side door

I was hoping to get the engine bay totally stripped today but unfortunately my Diabetes got the better of me :( . Oh well, there's always tomorrow :)

Hi Peter, Thanks for the good luck.
If it hadn't of been for this 2.3 Ghia Cortina, it probably would be.

My worst thoughts were realised yesterday when I removed the battery tray. A nice hole in the inner wing :(

The new coil springs I bought have more coils than an original set I have. Does this mean that they will be more springy or stiffer or no different??

Are those new ones Magnum or Snoot by any chance? They look similar to the Magnum ones I have.

I ordered them for a HC Viva 1256cc so they shouldn't be.

Is that a Juke Box in the background of the springs photo?

Sure is, Peter. Got 60 disks on it and it's set to random play, so it just picks a disk, plays a track then picks another disk. Got everything from Bing Crosby, Jim Reeves, Elvis to AC/DC, Motorhead and the Sex Pistols with loads of 80's stuff thrown in for good measure :D
