My guess is that the auto box needs a modification to the opening for the shifter and someone marked GT on it to show it was not to be built as standard......???

Just looked at the photos of the stripped shell. Looks pretty solid.... :D

The GT intrigued me so had another think.

The person putting in the interior trim would have seen this and the obvious and most common trim level would be SL for any Firenza 2300 OHC, the DL trim was export only. The Sport SL trim was different from the SL in that the seats were perforated vinyl recliners, so......my theory is that the Sport SL trim was commonly known in the factory as GT trim, Many of the workers would have been familiar with the HB trim levels, DL, SL and GT. The terms were familiar and could have carried on into the Firenza model among the workers.

That would make sense David. In other viva's we found that the colour was chalked on the tunnel.
As it's not a GT colour it could be trim . thanks :)
Shame it will be gone when it's painted...

What prompted my suggestion was a report from a Snoot and Sport SL owning friend, some people have it all, saying that 'Black' was chalked on his Snoot's tunnel, suggesting the trim colour.

The car is now stripped of parts & is almost ready to be spun on the roll over jig. Think I will stay at work that day...
Have a mountain of parts in the house to go through & clean, but that's what winter's for... cleaning :)

Make sure you keep track of the mountain of parts  taking apart and cleaning is one thing - putting them "somewhere safe" is another when you come to put it all back together!!
