anyone have a pair of replacement ends they want to sell me for a tenna and a pack of woodbine cigarettes... :lol:
so.. to the drawing board with this one! after digging out the "Daily Mirror" and a bucket of fibreglass/filler, them ends have pronounced themselves to be a challenge :cry:. I've done wing ends before, but not to that extent.. so would anyone have any tips? or possible wing ends close to original , that are easy to purchase?

That little bracket you see on the drivers side wing, is a bumper mount/ bracket :lol:

I just jumped straight into some more :D so far the passenger wing is getting on well and I done a bit of painting in the boot, which I would've finished off but the vacuum packed up and I couldn't vacuum the rest of the dust up :roll:

Digging deep with the screw driver, to find someone really liked using filler + fibre glass, as under the back seat where the side and the floor meets, that was plastered in fibreglass! so the best i could do was just weld some big plates in place, instead trying to get the panels looking original, as there was far too much metal loss.

Since having the car, i always thought the bonnet felt a bit too flimsy and it always made me curious whether or not it was the hinges or the hinge bolting area... well when i got the screwdriver to that, the bonnet both sides dropped and smacked my head :( as it turns out the mounting area was held up by fibre glass as well. I have to say though, who ever did the fibreglass to the bonnet hinge mountings, done a pretty good job as i would never of believed it, just by looking at them :lol:

luckily the hinges are the last parts that need welding to my knowledge, so hopefully i can start sanding the rest down, then pull the glass out from her :)

I'll try to keep posting as soon as i can and i will definitely be painting it red again :)

All looks familiar to me, my estate was cobbled up from fiberglass & filler to quite an extent & my saloon had it's fair share as well, that's how it was with our cars when they were just 'bangers' back then

It's a shame they get to the way they're, but back then as long as you could get it through an mot, it didn't matter what was used.
I remember once having a mk2 zodiac and someone used mk1 escort rear arches on the back of the zodiac, as the arches rotted out and they was held on by 2 tacks of welding and a scoop of filler. The transit vans was the worse to come to me... people using newspaper and the good old under seal. But the old under seal that use to go off rock solid, not like today's oily sealant

That's right, as an old form of transport, the mentality was ' try and get another 12 months out of it' so bodges were rife, saw some awful bodges over time including using wood as chassis rails ! As you say underseal set like concrete back then & was frequently used to mask 'repairs'
