quick update...
Investigated the running issue...
changed the dizzy cap for a better fitting one out of my bucket of odds and sods, used a better set of leads as well. Seemed to do something. I also fiddled with the mixture, I have better running but only seem to be returning around 24mpg ( this is not exact as my tank sender is shot so I'm just calculating usage etc) I will need to get to the local garage and get on their gas tester to get the mixture spot on sometime soon.

I also investigated the coil feeds, both read 12v disconnected (crank and running feeds)so i'm guessing it's the old non resisted feed that needs a ballast resistor. I'm running a resisted coil which should be ok, but I'm going to get hold of a non resisted coil and a ballast resistor and see if that makes a difference.

But on a plus note she runs good, not completely smooth but good, and is quite capable of being used on an almost daily basis, apart from being a tad thirsty.

So here are some celebratory pics :D

That big fat white stripe has really grown on me and those are some great pictures.

If you fancy a holiday to sunny Aberdeenshire let me know, you can stay here free in exchange for working on my HB

I agree, the white stripe and black bonnet look great.

Thanks guys :D :D :D

I'm not allowed that far 'oop north'. . . i get nosebleeds with the change in air pressure ;)

Besides the paint work is a bit 'shoddy' , it's meant to be that way though..it took ages to flatten back to bring out the undercoat in places ;) It's also been 'ceramic coated' to preserve the bare metal and repel water :D

Glad your enjoying it Mitch - it wasn't giving much pressure sat in my shed - I think I might have a working s/h petrol sender if you want to give it a try. :P

that sounds like a good idea :) I investigated my sender, the little tab off the top of the arm has broken off, i did toy with the idea of making something up and soldering it on, but I was worried about creating too much of a contact and causing sparks as it is an open unit on mine... probably wouldn't happen but ...
How much d'you want for it?

sounds good to me Fred :)

Anything is better than dipping the tank....it's been wildly inaccurate to say the least...

e.g. 60-70 mile round trip to Loughborough, dipped tank before I left = 5 1/2 inches fuel, dipped tank when I got home = 4 inches of fuel.

Then 30 mile round trip to Bourne, dipped tank before i left = 3 inches...and ran out of fuel about a mile from my door ( i carry a full can at all times luckily)

ok I know the tank gets smaller towards the bottom...but that much smaller?

Maybe I put my foot down more on the Bourne trip, I dunno :?

I should get it on a gas tester, I have been fiddling with the mixture (but not in between those two trips), but i trust my judgement, for example when I timed up the ignition I had to do it by ear as I had broken my strobe... but I thought I should check it so I bought a new timing light, duly checked the timing and I had got it spot on :D

I was happy with that ...but a little annoyed I had just bought a timing light for apparently no reason :D I'm sure it was more luck than judgement to be fair :D

Oh is anyone going to the Bourne classic car show? It is the cars first 'official' outing, I say 'official' as i had to apply to enter rather than just turning up :)
