Anybody got a chassis tilter and does it justify the very high initial cost???

Do you mean the hoop like things you attach to the car and literally roll the car over on?

If so I can see how marvellous they would be for your back.

Yes, the NBN one bolts to the bumper mounts and spins the car to any angle.

Viva Kebab anybody ???

It is not rocket science to build you own one of these, the biggest problem is not actually the manufacture of the frame etc, its how to get the car 4 feet in the air to attach it to the frame in the 1st place.

If you can do it, of course it makes working on the underside a simple task..... but remember to drain all the oil out of the engine, gearbox, axle, and to drain all the fuel as well. Works best only when an empty shell.....

Have a look at the Frosts web site, they sell one, but its a lot more than a new Viva! but it gives the principles if you fancy making you own

OK, WRONG!!! Sorry

The frost version is a chassis tilter rather than a spit roast system that allows the car to be rolled 90' over and attaches to the wheel hubs.
Not too bad money I guess

Trouble is the whole point of a tilter in my view is to tackle the bodyshell. A job best done with the running gear removed, so the Frost tilter would not help.

I thought about something like this (I think I saw it at Tatton Park show last weekend) and I wondered if you could make adapters that go from where the hub would have been if you didn't have a bare shell, up to the appropriate mounting on the body. Of course you'd have to do something else if you wanted to work on the mounting points you'd used, but it might do. These are the ones I think that use a power drill to raise and lower the vehicle.

I saw something on a USA website that someone had used two engine stands ( the ones where you can rotate the engine) and had made a bracket to attach to the chassis at each end with a connection bar from one engine stand to the other.

What is it about a car balanced on two engine stands that makes me twitch
