1600 HC sparks into life
Posted: Sat Sep 16, 2006 8:51 pmHa haaaaa........ That was heard by most of my road as the engine burst into life for the first time in nearly 10 years.
I've done it carefully, with advice from Matt (HC 1600), Paul(tinkerman) and John (Cossieviva). Cheers chaps!
Turned it by hand. Not ceased.....
Drained oil and squirted a mix of diesel and oil into the bores. Leave to soak.
Meanwhile, remove radiator and fan. Change cambelt.
Drain oil and change filter.
Do the electrics, new points, cap and arm. (You should have seen the old points - what a mess)
Turn the engine over on the key without the plugs until the new oil gets around.
And then......
It kicked into life. No drama, it just did it.. Runs and idles beautifully.
My car mad neighbour came round and was impressed with how well it ran considering how long it has been sitting in a garden and how old it is.
It was a good day......
