Dash resto

Postby batpoomonkey » Sat Jul 07, 2007 2:36 pm

Hi, I'm looking at restoring the dash in my HC and colouring it from brown to black. It has a few cracks in and I'm just wondering whether there are specialist fillers for the job? Also, is there specialist dye for the job? Or is it possible to spray paint them and put and sealant on afterwards. Any help would be appreciated. Also, whats the best way to re-colour seats? Paint again?

Cheers

Pretty sure you can get special fillers for dash's. You could also get a product called Vinal(?) Coyte, for recolouring seats etc. Try www.woolies-trim.co.uk

Vinyl spray colour

Postby VivaPete » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:37 pm

Hi
The best paint for vinyl seats is from Frosts; www.frost.co.uk
It's called Interior Coat Aerosol order number U220.@£12.

It changes the molecular colour of the vinyl so is not a paint that sits on the surface, so ideal for seats. One can will do one Viva front seat.

I have used it on my Deluxe seats and I am amazed! It must be similar to what is used to colour the vinyl originally. RECOMMENDED.

Hi, I finally got round to painting my door cards yesterday with Bradleys liquid plastic from frost auto resotration as advised. The finish seems really good, however I just rubbed my hand over it and it seems to have a black powder on it. I followed all the instructions, using their recommended plastikleen and plasticprep so I'm just wondering if this is normal and it just needs a wipe down.

Cheers

Hi
Sounds like it has dried before touching the surface. That's if you used an areosol. Otherwise not sure.
(I used a vinyl dye as stated previously).

Liquid plastic is U220 off frost.co.uk as recommended. I'll give it a rub down then see how it is.

Is is possible that the liquid plastic has reacted with something that has been sprayed on to the dashboard? Did you use any chemicals on the dash to clean it?
Three cars, two fire engines, one steam roller, a wheelchair, and various sized hammers.... what could go wrong?!

Its the door cards I'v e sprayed in the end. I followed all instructions using the same manufacturers cleaner and prep, then sprayed them. I have given them a quick rub down and the powdery finish seems to have gone, however I cleaned off a spare bit with their prep chemical and it doesnt seem to have coloured the vinyl at all, its just coated it like a normal paint. I've emailed fronst who supplied it to see if they know whats going on. I'll keep you posted should they come up with anything useful
