[quote="pbottomley"]Thats a heap of junk thing, take it out throw it away, there is no proof they work so its a waste of time having it... The only way to convert to unleaded is to actually re machine the head... Otherwise its adding a substance to the fuel in liquid form when you fill up.

There are numerous substances such as castrol valve stem fluid availble from Halfords (examples).

i know about having the head machined and the additives. i had no idea what that thing was or what it did as i have never seen another. so if i remove it i should have no ill effects?

you will prob find the last owner stuck it in as part of the sales pitch, "its unleaded", Taking it out will do nothing to the car as it does nothing anyways other than sit there.

Get down Halfords and get some fluids son :D

additave will be purchased swiftley, fuel cat will be removed also. and destroyed. the previous owner had it fitted presumably thinking it would work.

One of the best additives out there is Millers VSP. I have used it for years in my 2300 Viva & it has suffered no valve seat recession at all in 8 years of use.
Cost around a Fiver & 1 bottle treats 40 litres of fuel. Also adds 2 octane points to the fuel used. I would use super unleaded in your car, they run so much better on it, especially Shell V Power or BP Ultimate. More expensive i know, but worth it. I found my 2300 used to pink on normal unleaded even with the additive.

Ha!! the report on the fuel cat thingy is pretty funny!!!

There must have been hundreds of these scams over the years...the best one Ive seen is a "supercharger" that was a bit of bent tin that looked like a fan an went on the end of your exhaust pipe, looked a bit like a kids toy! :D

I emailed the guy to ask about the increase in volumetric efficiency for a given capacity, never did get a reply though...

good looking car by the way!! makes me wish I kept my vinyl roof!!! :D
