Thanks for the kick up the jacksy Phil, yes i have done some more to the Snoot.
Mainly just hoiking the engine & ZF box out & removing the front running gear. The running gear has now been stripped to its individual parts ready for a complete overhaul i.e. shotblasting anti-rust treated then a few coats of Stonechip Black & new bushes. Some nobber before me has plastered everything in the dreaded Hammerite & its a complete biatch to get off. :( One good thing is that it has had all of the DTV suspension strengthening mods done, so thats saved me a fairly big job, although getting that Hammerite off is taking ages, even the blaster makes heavy weather of it.
Anyway, some piccys.

Had mine stripped and powder coated in a lovely satin black by a local firm up here in Cheshire, charged me £65. I don't know what the previous owner had painted it with, but paint stripper wasn't helping. The firm that coated it didn't have any trouble, all they were concerned about was underseal.

Theres loads to do yet Jon.
Gonna do the Lotus Twin Cam head onto Vauxhall Single Cam block conversion instead of fitting the whole lotus unit, as this is what the car should have. Replacing the 052 axle with a std 2.3 unit as its a better ratio 3.4 instead of 3.8(052) so will make it a bit more long legged for the motorway, but will have around 160bhp on tap, so should still be fun!

A quick update.
Here are some of the refurbished front running gear components for the snoot.
They have had all theSatanite (Hammerite) :( chipped off, blasted to remove rust, then 3 coats of Kurust, 2 good coats of Matt Black Primer, 3 coats of Stone Chip Shield in Satin Black. This is the state of finish that you see in the pictures.
Obviously you cant get rid of the pitting left by the old rust, but that was all removed in the blasting stage, so i started with new metal. The best way to start really.
The final coats will be this stuff:-

Product Name
BlackCote (473ml) US Pint

Product Description

Use over POR-15 for the toughest, most permanent protection against rust and corrosion. Non-porous and will not crack, chip, or peel. Has amazing scratch and abrasion resistance, not sensitive to ultra-violet light and may be applied over POR-15 or over other Paints.

Blackcote has a beautiful gloss black finish and is perfect for restoring the gloss black frames, chassis and underhood parts of earlier vehicles.

Has taken ages, but is well worth the effort.
