Well, carpet arrived a few days ago but havent taken it out of the package as yet as dont want to fit it until I'm satisfied that no water is getting in to ruin it. My father has been patiently doing some sealing work around the window rubbers etc and reckons that he has sorted them. Seats etc back out as decided to put another coat of hammerite on the floor. Decided to strip out the roof lining tonight and have a look underneath as the lining was very brittle and stained. Roof not too bad although the cross brace above the rear window has some holes in it. Removed the lining complete so that will have a pattern to make a new one with. Looks like it will be quite a tricky job to fit a new one but my father has plenty patience when it comes to these sort of jobs. I wasnt blessed with the same unfortunately!!! Anyone had any experience of making/fitting roof linings?

I did one for the HC, its not too bad, just get some proper nylon type material to do the rod loops. lots of measuring and it should turn out ok!

good luck!!

Agree with that. Easier than it looks (but it does look hard). Use loads of clothes pegs to get it in place, and gradually work round with contact adhesive. It stretches quite well.

Make sure you rust proof the roof channels before also.

Thanks for the advice.
Where did you get new roof lining from? Have seen someone selling it on the roll on e-bay.
Going to rustproof inside roof/rails first.
The perforated panels on the inside of the roof...are they for soundproofing or are they some sort of strengthening support for the roof?

Cheers,
Phil.

I'd have thought they were for sound deadening and to prevent "drumming", like dynomat

Your right Dave they are for noise reduction.

I got mine from Woolies.

The panels around the side making the roof double thickness would be for strengthening, across probably to stop drumming.

Thanks to all.
Wanted to make sure what the panels were for as noticed a small bit of bubbling under one of them and was going to remove to clean and recoat inside of roof.

Cheers,
Phil.

Removed panels yesterday and cleaned up inside of roof, was in pretty good shape although a couple of small holes appeared in the rail that runs across the roof above rear window.
Gave roof and rails a coat of hammerite and now I will try to find some new lining.
