MOTs and prep for Billing

Postby mazzo » Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:10 am

I thought this weekend would be a doddle. Get the 1600 out of the garage, put the green HC in and start the process of MOTing the two.

Wrong!

I drove the 1600 into the garage last year about a month after the MOT. It's done only 60 miles since the last MOT and so it should, in theory, just be a case of driving it around to get the surface rust off the discs etc.

Nope. It wouldn't start and it flooded. Did all the usual. Squirt of oil down the bores, put in fresh plugs. Nope, still the same. Oil pressure light was going out, so that was OK.

There was no spark and it turned out to be the points had got a layer of oxidation or some other tarnish that stopped the contact. Once they were cleaned and reset, it fired up and ran really well. Never had that happen before.

So, I didn't get as much done as I wanted but have started the pre MOT stuff on it.

It's nice to have the 1600 out as it is such a different car to the 1159.

Hi Jon

It's not impossible ;) - but depends on what 1600OHC has done with his. If he gets his MOT'd in time, then I'll do Billing in the 1600 so we can have at least 2 1600 HCs there, if not I'll come in the green one.

Both mine are hugely work in progress and won't be even remotely looking OK this year. If he doesn't get his MOT'd then he can drive one of mine.

Can't wait to see yours though!

Most important thing for me is that whatever happens on Monday - pass or fail, at least I have a Viva to go to Billing in.

Dunno about clever. Considering myself to be lucky though!

See you at Billing too. How's the engine getting on?

Ooops!

Think I'm confusing you with Dave. It's the GLS thing! Consider it a momentary lapse of reason......
