I thought this weekend would be a doddle. Get the 1600 out of the garage, put the green HC in and start the process of MOTing the two.
Wrong!
I drove the 1600 into the garage last year about a month after the MOT. It's done only 60 miles since the last MOT and so it should, in theory, just be a case of driving it around to get the surface rust off the discs etc.
Nope. It wouldn't start and it flooded. Did all the usual. Squirt of oil down the bores, put in fresh plugs. Nope, still the same. Oil pressure light was going out, so that was OK.
There was no spark and it turned out to be the points had got a layer of oxidation or some other tarnish that stopped the contact. Once they were cleaned and reset, it fired up and ran really well. Never had that happen before.
So, I didn't get as much done as I wanted but have started the pre MOT stuff on it.
It's nice to have the 1600 out as it is such a different car to the 1159.
