Mail 2 Forum failures

Postby pbottomley » Tue Aug 22, 2006 12:50 pm

Well as most of you who receive emails are possibly wondering "why are we getting no emails?" its because all those wonderful VIAGRA people who managed to piggyback the website and use it to send emails forced me to shut the site down for a short while last Sunday Night.

(yep that’s what happens on the internet these days)

I was forced to implement some updates I wasn’t to sure about, including an update to the mail2forum (the software that does all the emails). The knock on effect was to break most things, not fix them.

I have been at it since Sunday night and haven’t got it working right yet. I remember spending weeks on this over last Xmas, so don’t hold your breath to much, it might even be working right this second in time? Its one of those things with too many settings and areas of configuration that’s it all gets a bit grey! Then all of a sudden BING it works....

Anyways once I have fixed that, I have to fix the email digests because they are not working correctly either..... Blasted Spammers...

If anyone is interested here is a link to the issues this website has been facing and what I have done (or am doing) to try and stop it happening again.

You wanna be careful Paul, or your rep as a web/computer egg head will be ruined forever.

Despite that, we still luv ya.
Sometimes, I wonder why I bother, and then for one fleeting moment things will go right for a change.

Well the latest update is as follows:

I repaired the main forum, half sorted the mail2 forum software.

I am able to post to the forum form an email, but not able to send and email forma forum post (so its still ongoing).

But i have upgarded at the same time to a new version of the software that will enbalke individuals to select the post method as text or html (take note Sid) , also each email will have a link back to the original thread, so no wondering what on earth the email is about (another comment from a user here)

All thats said its not working its down to a code issue little old me is seeking help with from other geeks with.

The Digests are also broken, but uintil I get this sorted I am leaving that well alone !!! LOL

Once that lot is all fixed I will be sorting out all the extra software surrounding this board I will be moving the whole board to a newer version, to protect us even more.

I will do a mass email to everyone once its fixed and let everyone knwo whats new, how it works and sorry for the inconvience. :D
