This is the same ebayer ( and forum member) that has previously bought HB's from within the club and then sold them on almost straightaway with a healthy profit margin....anyone remember the dark blue HB saloon that Adrian put back on the road ?? and prior to that there was a green HB (...maybe two ??).

Seriously though, this is what happens when values go up, it was the same way way back when i was a member of the S.E.O.C., I used to get given 1600 ghia's for pennies, i even bought a mkII RS 2000 for £100, nose cone and everything.
Then the values started to go up and the market was flooded with fakes and dodgy deals. . . well i won't go into it too much, but it's all very well finally owning a car that's worth something, but it brings the chancers out of the woodwork, and your £2k viva is suddenly worth £4k on a dealer forecourt, a dealer that can afford to have it sitting around at that price because there will always be someone with more money than sense willing to pay that price. So when you supposedly, realistically, price your viva at around the £2k mark the vultures swoop in to make a quick, or not so quick, buck. Unfortunately, that it turn ups the prices in the minds of the private seller, so then the viva will be up for around £4k privately ( we have seen evidence of this, a certain 4 door HB on the bay maybe? ) which in turn gets bought by a dealer who will hopefully, in his greedy eyes, will shift it on for £6k, and then we get into escort territory, and your boggo HB deluxe is soon worth £10k, and out of the reach of many a car enthusiast, especially new young drivers and the marque following will die, only being the plaything of the rich middle class. Thus killing the classic saloon car scene for younger people, the life blood of the classic world i would say.

Just as the Escort was the car of the people, the poorer choice of classic, so was the viva, now escorts have passed into the upper echelon of classic car ownership, and out of reach of the common man, so the humble viva will also, and there lies the death of the scene, as the cars will become fewer as more and more are broken for spares to make a quick buck, or average examples are moved on for inflated prices that are out of reach, and they become trailer queens or garaged relics. The cars should be used, abused and loved for what they are, basic saloon tin boxes for the common man....

As a Club we decided to leave the "For Sale and Wanted" in the public area of the forum as it was felt that this encouraged new membership and broadened the visibility to those with an interest iv Vivas but not yet members.
Unfortunately it does not prevent those who have an interest of a profiteering nature from seeing what is on offer:roll:
My advise to those advertising their Vivas in the future through this forum or any other advertising media would be to advertise at an inflated price and offer a substantial discount (say 30% ) for club members. Also vet a potential buyer carefully prior to selling to a non club member - when satisfied the the buy is not a chancer only allow the discount once the potential buyer has joined the club (could perhaps impose a 10% surcharge refundable after 12 months of club membership:?:)

I,m just waiting for the day the property market starts to rise again, lets not forget this all happened in the late eighties if you remember, property prices bottomed out and investors started to look elsewhere, hence why the classic market at the time went mental, and is doing now, but soon as the market was hot again the classics market went down again.
Personally i think the viva is overpriced when you compare what you can buy for say 5-6K however if people buy them then they will go up.

What you comparing it with then? What is better in your eye to a Viva for £3k to 4k - basic viva prices are not 5 to 6 grand

lol sounds like im dissing the Viva doesnt it,which wasnt what i ment i think that came out a bit wrong, yes i know the basic prices Fred but it seems some are achieving more, i know of 3 that have been advertized for nearly 5k, whether they sold for that is another matter.
