Hello. I'm looking for a new set of springs for the rear brake drums of my 1976 HC Coupe, 1256 cc OHV engine, Lockheed. Ideally a complete set for both drums is what I'm after. Many thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, Those are self adjusting drums aren't they? You may have to look at replacements for another car that used similar brakes. Probably some of the Triumphs (Dolomites) of the era or possibly Marina.

Hi David, that's right, they are the self adjusting type. Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at those alternatives. Mike.

Is it the holding down springs with pins and retaining plates or the return springs that you need?

Hi David

I've managed to source most of them through Vauxhall Green Parts, except for the middle size spring and the other spring circled in the attached photo. If I can get hold of these that would be great.

All the best,

Mike

You'll probably see the springs or their equivalent here but alas, Rimmer Bros have them listed as NLA

Although another supplier has these listed which MAY be the same as Viva ones

The upper of the two springs you have circled is I think the spring from the self-adjusting mechanism i.e the one that is a single loop with an arm at 12 o`clock and one at 8.
These springs are handed! and I think the spring you show is from an early version of the s/a mech. If you look at these parts on ebay 232999290123 you may see the similarity but this is the later kit for a TR7 etc. and your mechanism may have different shaped ratchet parts.

Hopefully this is of some help

The TR7 ones are the same as the Magnum self adjusting 9" brakes, but are too big for the OHV Viva self adjusting drums, otherwise, I would have suggested them. I've used the TR7 pawl and spring kits on a couple of Magnum brakes that have had problems with the self adjusters.

Yes you`re quite right, the kit shown is for 9" x 1.75" TR7 brakes and hence match with Magnums.
The 4=speed TR7 and some early autos used 8" x 1.5" rear brakes-would these match up?
They use the same or similar system but I have never seen these offered - maybe this is a source for parts albeit second hand (if the sizes match?) as many 4-speed TR7s get parted out.
