Barn find viva hc

Postby happydaze3481 » Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:56 pm

Hi all
My name is AL and I lurk around essex, I am a mechanic by trade and have been involved in motor sport and modifiying cars for quite some time, I am quite happy to say that now I just fix ordinary cars.Happy to help though if anyone has any questions, because make no mistakes ill be asking you guys a few.

I just happened to come across a 1972 viva Hc in a barn the other day not in the best of health, but some things you gotta do, I own the little bugger now and my wife was so proud :angrywife:

Well this is what I want to do with it, I want to make it a modern proper car, hope you dont mind, I have sourced a c20xe engine, A getrag 5 speed box, I also stole the tunnel too, I intend to run in on bike carbs or turbo it.

I know it sounds sad, by my intentions are to blow the bloody doors off these little over priced escorts and bring the viva to the fore front.
Ill get some pics for you all and ill be letting you know what I need soon.

The bits that I will not require will be on here so with any luck some of my bits will make a standard one look better.

Nice forum and I hope to be on here for some time.

Your welcome to the forum fella :welcome:

However your about the ninety ninth millionth person to join the forum in the last year and talk about a XE conversion, frankly I am bored shitless of them, all it proves is you have deeper pockets than the other person, BUT each to their own and good luck....

Why not think of something different from the sheep? Old school V8 or V6 or something different that no one else has done? :goodideasign:

Hello and welcome, pictures please, and the reg number. If it was a OHV car the original axle will last about 5 mins with that engine and power.

Well thanks for the replies
Intrigued by the comment for going old school,
Like the sound of that.
Give me a clue what you would have in mind,
I would love to do the V8 thing but need to know what units you have in mind.
As for expensive to get a c20 Im afraid I would disagree, If i said that I sourced all my parts for under a £100.
I went that route cause its cheap and easy,
Back to the V8, I dont wanna cross breed, dont like that.
I suspect you are thinking a small block LS or LT unit,
Look forward to your response.
Photos up on friday with the reg number.
Cheers
Al

Hiya and welcome. If you have a look under modified (I think) for Smurf, you'll see the V8 that's going to sit in mine ;-) nice heavy cast iron SBC :-)

put what ever engine you want in, mate. at the end of the day its your car. crossbreeding eh? is chevrolet not under the same banner as vauxhall? i've been running a tuned 350 in my hc for nearly 14yrs. ya cant beat it but its a bit of a handfull this time of year. my every day hc runs a pinto turbo. i know its a ford engine but its bullet proof and cheap to replace/ maintain. its right about the rear axle tho, the 1800 viva unit is ideal but a volvo unit is indestructable. if you need any advice give me a shout
