Afternoon

Postby rattlyolddt » Tue Feb 14, 2017 4:58 pm

Hi Everyone

I'm Ed

I live in Bedfordshire, and have previously had old VW's, a min, and a couple of E36 Coupes.

I currently have a few 1970's Two stroke Yamaha's.

I have also helped my dad restore a 1968 Renault Caravelle, a 1973 Mercedes 206d Camper van, and a couple of others.

I am hoping to buy a two door HB or HC within the next few months.

Look forward to contributing and asking daft questions soon!

Cheers

Ed

Cheers mate, that's canny, I was born in Leicester, moved to Poole for a job.

I lived in Hamworthy, Broadstone, Parkstone and Branksome, before drifting to Potton via Hitchin.

Whereabouts are you now?

Cheers

Cool, I lived halfway down York Road, lodged with a care nurse called Tracy with enormous boobs.

Cheers Fred I will be filling them in when I buy a car.

£3.5k is a bit out of price range at the moment, but I dont mind saving for the right car.

How much would a decent two door 1600, 1800 or 2300 cost me realistically? I think I'd rather buy a tidy quick one, than butcher a tidy 1300 with an engine swap down the line.

Cheers

You can join the club without owning a viva
We don't want you butchering any cars they are getting more and more difficult to find in original state - if you want something quicker and in good order you are going to looking £3000 upwards for the OHC Viva/firenza/ Magnum - I think Mr Cullum is trying to sell his 4 door HC 2300 SL for circa £6k - our previous chairman has his red top Magnum Coupe up for £10K and one of our members has in mind £14k for his HB GT

Cheers Fred

Think I'll keep saving and look at buying one of the bigger ones. I'd love a GT but cant afford one! The Tatty HB Red Top would have made a lovely usable GT lookalike, but I'm only sat on £2000 at the moment.

I've seen the black coupe, it looks like a lot of fun.

How tunable is the 1256 in the HC? I coould always buy one and keep saving, and sell the 1256 later.

Welcome. First off good luck on finding a 1600 HB or HC, rocking horse poop is easier to find. Bigger engined cars 1800, 2000, 2300 comand higher prices usually, and use a lot more petrol. The basic 1159/1256 engine isnt bad, not going beat anyone at the lights, but if looked after reliable and 30+mpg. Tunning parts are around but again getting hard to find. Best bet is make sure the igintion system is good, fit elec ignition. Make sure carb is in good nick and set up correctly. Easy to drive.
