Moral support needed for a full restoration on an HA Viva

Postby Rob,Basaras » Fri Apr 18, 2008 7:45 pm

Hello!

Just a quick note to say i'm about to restore an HA Viva (with i believe an HB engine) that hasn't moved or been started since 1994! I'm undertaking a full rebuild of the engine and all mechanical components although i fear the gearbox may be difficult to get parts for! So i may call on some of you for moral support, or more importantly to help me get through what is know as "the Wall"! All the best,

Rob.

It shouldnt be so bad, the OHV is rather simple and lots of parts are still floating around. Dont be afraid to ask.... :D :D

thanks for the encouragement! it is a rather "Agricultural" affair! just on the off chance would you know if a head gasket and valve springs for a 1057 would be a direct replacement for the originals? i foolishly ordered these before checking what engine had been fitted. how stupid of me to assume a 44 year old car would have the original engine!

All the best and many thanks,

Rob.

Hello and good luck. The valve springs might fit, but dont think the head gasket will.

Hi Peter,

Just had a set of exhaust valves turn up (for a 1057), i placed them against the ones on the head and and they are even smaller than the inlet valves let alone the exhaust valves. that was a waste of a tenner lol

You can always resell the parts that dont fit, someone will have them.

Thats a good idea, i'll place an add on here if it's allowed lol. Do you know by any chance how to identify exaclty what engine i have? i've tried searching engine numbers on the net but with no joy. It's so helpful having people on here that know what they're talking about!

Thanks,

Rob.
