sounds like a great trip idea....

I tend to stop for breakfast here:
http://www.ralia.co.uk

there is a nice coffee shop in the harbour at Lybster:

This always assumes you use the East coast road, which frankly is nothing but log lorries bullying you, i would get as far north as Inverness then head North west into the highlands for a more interesting drive! Thats is unless your doing the Aberdeen ferry in which case you will miss all the sights?

Hi All,
Fred is already on his way via Steve Greys place. I on the other hand have checked the car over, made sure I have it mot'd and taxed, just have to find some room in the boot alongside the tools and spares for Marians clothes bag. Then it's off in the morning headed for Aberdeen to catch the ferry, stopping off half way at Carlisle for the night.
Meeting Fred at the ferry terminal to catch the Tuesday night ferry over to Shetland.

Mike

ps. I did manage to finish the magazine before this road trip, it will be on your doormats soon.

Ditto, good luck you two bams.

I'm located about 39 miles from Carlisle, going north and east on the A7 from junction 44 of the M6, if you've any technical, logistical or other unexpected hitches then cups of tea, tools, some HB spares, etc., are possible mid-way.

Well we did actually come back  - trying to catch up ever since  - cant believe I actually arrived back 3.00 pm last Wednesday :!: Total mileage for the trip was 1100 miles - yet to work out how much petrol.
I met up with Mike at the Travelodge on the A9 outside Perth having travelled up to Consett on the Sunday to call on Steve Gray - check out his new pickup and have a meal with him down the local pub. After an overnight at a local B&B travelled up the A68 aiming for Perth - some lovely countryside and excelent driving roads ideal for B-Bumble, the Brabham, - he was singing away and whistling round the bends and undulations :P - lots of low cloud about so no distractions from the driving experience
Tuesday was a different day with hot sunshine - had to park B-Bumble in the shade whilst I waited for Mike to catch up with me.
Mike arrived and we set off for the Ferry at Aberdeen - about 10 miles out the wind got very strong and caused us to slow off a bit due to buffeting - arrived at the ferry in good time and parked up in the queue for embarking

We must have got our towels down early as we were ahead of the German group who we has shown a clean pair of heels on the dual carriageway earlier :o

We booked in and lined up to be lead on to the ferry - Mike was starting to get excited

More in our next ..............
