Coventry Rally 3rd and 4th Sept

Postby paulbottomley37 » Fri Oct 28, 2005 11:15 pm

On September 3rd and 4th 2005 Coventry will host a weekend Festival of Motoring. This will be an extended version of the annual motoring event held for the last twenty years. The extremely popular annual Car Run attracts hundreds of classic, vintage cars and motorcycles to Coventry in September each year and is a fantastic spectacle as well as an opportunity to profile Coventry's outstanding motoring heritage.

The 2005 event will be expanded to take place throughout the weekend of the 3rd and 4th September, allowing organisers to stage a whole range of activities. The programme will kick off at 12pm on Saturday 3rd September with a display of selected entrants' cars in Millennium Place, outside the new look Coventry Transport Museum. Exhibitors and visitors will be able to enjoy the Museum's outstanding collection and brilliant new galleries with the added appeal of the display of vehicles and activities and competitions throughout the day.

On the Saturday evening entrants will be invited to a private civic reception at the Transport Museum hosted by the Lord Mayor of Coventry. The event will continue on Sunday 4th September with a meeting and rally of cars, assembling at the City's Memorial Park at 9am for a 10.00am start on a new look route, which will incorporate key elements of local history and interest. There will also be a wide range of displays and activities at the Memorial Park to keep everyone entertained throughout the day. This includes plans for a special display of military vehicles to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

The Car Run has previously been organised by International Festival Services. For 2005 the new look 'Coventry Festival of Motoring' will see a change in organisation, and will be staged through a partnership between CVOne and Coventry Transport Museum, assisted by the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and Peugeot.

Anyone who would like to take part in the 2005 Coventry Festival of Motoring should contact Nicola Roach at Coventry Transport Museum for further details and entry forms.
