Okay, so the Bedford CF manual gearbox will fit with a custom shift linkage?

That looks like a ZF box, can't tell whether it's a four speed or five speed but the plate on the side will tell you that. I *think* the only difference (apart from the ratios, CF van usually has gears aimed at starting off with a heavy load, and no overdrive top) is the gearchange linkage, the Sportpart manual suggests a CF box could be used in a competition car with the correct modifications.

Thank you!

I will pick it up tomorrow morning and check the plate, the owner doesn't know anything about the gearbox.

So, is that the whole gearbox? That seems <seems> like it would be a good alternative to a tight spaced British sports car 5 speed swap - like, say, an MG Midget 1500 - or am I missing something? Are the ratios helpful?

It is the whole gearbox, but if you look at where the gear lever comes out (right on top) it's usually too far forward for use in a car. That will have to be changed to make it any use. Also it's a ZF, so if you find one suitable for a car they tend to be expensive (here at least) because they're suitable for historic rallying in Escorts and so on. I'd have thought there are more tried-and-tested 5-speed conversions for Midgets.

It's a 4-Speed box and sadly the clutch-housing is cracked.

I will weld the housing (going to be fun...) and see where the shifter would come out of the floor.
Are there any pictures of the gear linkage in the performance parts manual? I wasn't able to get a copy yet...

The engine is only missing the distributor and the crankshaft-wheel and it was pretty cheap (125€ for engine and 2 gearboxes). The other one is complete and running inside a Bedford CF (we're getting the whole car for one crate of beer), so we got enough spare parts for the build for the 2017 race.

I'll try to find a better picture later in the week, this is from the ZF brochure:

See how it comes out of the back rather than the top? That gives you a rough idea of how much too far forward the CF one is - you sit virtually on top of the gearbox in the van.

Okay, the linkage looks like the one on the OHV-gearbox.

I think we will build something that's not beautiful but working :D
