68 Viva Deluxe

Thought it's about time I put a project page for this, bought back in May this year but not having much luck with it so far.

The 1159 was replaced with a 1256 that 'needed a new oil pressure switch' when i bought it and after only a couple of hundred miles it got very tappety on my way to my local club meet. I was on the motorway so couldn't really pull over, then the oil light started flickering and engine lots most of its power. Managed to get it home but it developed a nasty rattle from the bottom end.

Picked up what i'm told is a 22k 1159 engine and gearbox and after checking the clutch we found that was soaked in oil, apparently due to the way it had been stored. So got a new clutch kit and fitted that over the weekend, used the CD150 from the old engine as the down draught leaked. Had some overheating issues so flushed the system through, replaced all the hoses, thermostat and had the rad re-cored.

Image

It ran fine after that but always idled high no matter what you did to it. Checked the timing as it was way out and now it idles fine, however then it decided to develop a misfire! I changed the dizzy cap and rotor yesterday even though they were fine and it cleared up. Sorted out the HT leads as they were all touching and now the misfire is back!

Got some new leads on order as well as an electronic ignition kit so hoping that does it. Booked it in to the OhSoRetro show for next Sunday a while back but can't say that i'll be taking it yet...

That looks like a 'mighty fine' car. Once you get the niggly bits sorted you really will start to enjoy it. :)

Cheers guys, it has been well looked after and it came with a tonne of spares which always helps.

I found an old display pass for Enfield Pageant from a few years ago but it doesn't appear to be known to the club, unless anyone knows otherwise?

It's my 3rd viva, i had a hc and more recently a hb and this is the best condition one by far. Just a shame as i've missed most of the shows I had planned to take it to!

Cheers bobby, it is a lovely colour!

Well i'm happy to say I made the OhSoRetro show without an issue! We met up at half 7 to get down there an set up early. Our club must of had the largest stand as we had a 60 car convoy down! She drove beautifully and although it was only 30 odd miles away, it was a bit nervy as i've not driven the new engine more than a couple of miles at a time.

I'll update this soon, lost access to my account so I've started a new one.

Fitted all new suspension, lowered 35mm with GAZ shocks.
