1972 firenza 2000 sl Auto

Postby jamezz666 » Sat May 12, 2018 5:10 pm

Hello everyone

you've problem seen my thread on my GT, but i also have planned to save this auto firenza! a lot worse than i imagined, but once the GT is done i'll be starting on her. Sorted a bonnet out and collecting a door sunday from Fred. But since these pictures, i have done some work such as cleaning the engine bay up, getting her running! which was a pig as i'm having to do it from a jerry can and the carbs floats must be stuck as fuel is flying out everywhere! but the main thing is.. she ran and selected Drive :D Will be a while until i add to this thread, but i will keep it original with no mods and it will be saved eventually!

2 lights blown after the one picture  The lovely chap who i bought it from, even still had the original Bill Blydenstein crate for the cylinder head! it's now on a shelf as a show piece 8)

That does look like a nice project. Glad someone is taking it on and going to preserve it.

Thank you for the comment! i will also get some interior pictures and a video of her running soon!, but it's definitely in need of a good few parts though. Would be nice to know how many actually survive, as i've read somewhere, the auto's are thin on the ground in both firenza's and magnums.

Next week i may attempt freeing off the passenger caliper, then see if she will move with a little bit of throttle 8)

I'd say it would be very rare - autos of any kind fell out of favour. Has it got the GM 3-speed auto box? If so and you need a manual for it, give me a shout as I've got a scan of it. Having glanced through it, I sincerely hope you don't need it.

Yes has the gm 3 speed! is the scan in paper form or on the computer? are you asking any money for it as to be honest, funds are very tight at the moment!

I've sent you a PM. I'd just post the link to the PDF but I'm not sure what the general view on that is.

Look on the bright side, at least the rubber filler neck is in reasonable condition....

You might be better off getting a whole boot floor from a donor shell if you can find one. A saloon shell boot floor is the same.

 and it's still a bit flexible after all these years  . think boot floors are a pig to find these days :( I'm going to get the car sheltered under something soon, then get the GT finished.

But my best option so far, is some good gauge sheet steel. Shame really it's got to the condition it has.. but better to save another than let it go.. just got hold of another wing cheap for it, even though it's the least of my problems 8)

I've replaced similar bits on my hatch, I'd say don't try to make it all in one piece if you're going to make it. 18swg steel seems about right. It's a fiddle, but it's all do-able if you give yourself enough time and don't cut out too much in one go.

At least you can see yours - I had to remove a box section between the rear wheelarch tubs to get to mine as the estate uses it as a strengthener and a mount for the false floor.
