Postby viva boy » Sat Feb 02, 2019 8:17 pm

how easy is it to remove the chrome gutter trim or rain channel trim off of a car without damaging it ??
is there any cheats for doing this....
i need to remove mine from my viva hc estate and really don't want to damage it.
also is this item available any where to buy or anyone know any suppliers if mine does brake or get damaged ?

There is a special tool described in the Training Manuals and it is a simple hook type device a bit like a bottle opener.

It is possible to carefully work the trims off with your fingers, lifting them off from below as if they are 'hooked over' the gutter, but there are a couple of retaining tabs at either end of the trims that need to be carefully prised free beneath the gutter.

The trims can be refitted using a similar technique in reverse, hooking them over the gutter and gently tapping them down into place with a rubber mallet. There are two pieces to each side. They slot together somewhere near the B pillar so need to be carefully aligned before tapping into place when re-fitting.

I don't think anyone - by which I mean East Kent Trim Supplies - is supplying these trims, so It's a matter of finding spares from 'breaking' cars as and when they appear on ebay if one breaks - but they are fairly easily removeable intact with care.

Here:

If I recall correctly I used a wide flat-bladed screwdriver against a piece of wood of suitable thickness placed below the gutter to protect the window trims. Do everything very gradually - it's much easier to bend these trims than it is to straighten them, or find good ones.
