Remove the inner rear light covers and the tailgate catch surround, lift the carpet edges, undo the various screws and remove the false estate floor.

If it's an OHV car with the smaller tank:

The tank sits in a hole in the floor. You need to disconnect the filler pipe under the car, while you're there also disconnect the fuel output pipe, both obviously will let fuel out if the level is too high. Inside the car, disconnect the wire to the sender unit, undo the bolts around the outside edge, lift the tank out.

If it's an OHC car with the larger tank:

The tank is bolted underneath the two chassis rails, and the hole in the floor is covered with a ribbed panel. Underneath the car, disconnect the filler pipe, fuel output and sender unit wire. Support the tank underneath and undo the bolts that hold it up to the chassis rails. Lower the tank and remove it from the car. Again, make sure there's little to no fuel in it.

Note also that with the OHC tank, the bolts have a habit of rusting in place. They screw into captive nuts inside the chassis rails, and on the drivers side in particular are quite difficult to get to around the rear silencer. If one goes suspiciously easy to turn, it may be that the captive nut is turning. At that point, either drill the bolt out to remove the tank and fix it while it's out, or you can access it from the top if you don't mind cutting into the boot floor and plating it afterwards.
