Carb Bottom O Ring

Postby nick_smith » Fri Mar 13, 2020 4:36 pm

Hi everyone!

My ‘79 HC 1256 carb is leaking fuel and I suspect the bottom o ring is to blame as I have had to replace this before. I wondered if anyone knew the exact size before I order a replacement as the one before obviously didn’t do the trick. Also, is anyone able to recommend a supplier?

Many thanks,
Nick

I don’t off hand know what the size is, but I would look to try and get parts that are compatible with ethanol as I’ve read recently that there are plans to change the petrol again from its current E5 to E10. If you’re changing it anyway, it might be something to consider.

What kind of carburettor is it?

I needed some for a Stromberg CD175, and found that in my big selection box of O-rings, nothing would fit quite properly. Luckily I had a rebuild kit lurking in a box, so I got one from there.

I'm not entirely sure :? It is stamped with Zenith CD with no number. I can't find a similar Zenith one and it seems to match the images of Stromberg carbs I've seen

:thanx: I knew of the problem ethanol could cause but wasn't aware of the planned jump in content!

Perhaps you could post a photo of it, just to be sure. Someone will recognise it.

Zenith Stromberg CD 150. Commonly known as a Stromberg 150 in the Viva community.

Most Triumph specialists will be able to supply a butyl rubber O ring for about £1. Bear in mind that there are at least 2 sizes.

With the government plan to increase the ethanol content in petrol to 10% in the near future I'm hoping to be able to supply upgraded ones for our club members in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your help everyone!

I’ve ordered some 15mm internal diameter (20mm external) x 2.5mm nitrile ones. Hopefully they will solve the issue.
