Now that the rebuild was complete there was no hanging about!!
The goal was to get the viva to Kilbroney show June 2017 on her own steam and with me at the wheel
That left a grand total of about 2 weeks to get an MOT before the show. The entire ignition system was replaced with new parts, an exhaust was welded up to get out onto the road and a full service performed. New tyres helped drain the bank account further although the incorrectly painted rostyles were on.
With the MOT booked we discovered a hole in the fuel tank, just enough to let the petrol seep through and cause a constant drip. This was patched up with JB Weld and still seals it to this day
I added the R plates and decided I was the coolest 17 year old in Northern Ireland, who could refuse me an MOT certificate ?
Well....... The wiper stalk fell off half way to the test centre when I was cleaning the windscreen so the wipers were stuck on in flat out mode, quickly rectified by removing the fuse but apparently a fail nonetheless even though it was abundantly clear the worked and were eager to see some rain. My case wasn't helped with the sky high emissions readings the tester was being subjected to, he was looking for a mask before it was a mandatory covid requirement
Feeling deflated I returned home to glue the wiper stalk together and tackle the emissions problem. It boiled down to Stromberg being scrap but a fellow enthusiast from Newcastle Co. Down called Sean Curran was able to provide me with a bag full of 5 carbs which we were able to make a good version out of. Worth noting he wouldn't take a penny for them and went to the trouble of delivering them to me.
With that the viva sailed through the retest and made it to Kilbroney, commencing a year and a half daily driving, getting me everywhere I needed to go.
