Bottom window channels Fabrication

Postby Mike Attew » Fri Mar 26, 2021 8:59 am

I don't need any of these at present.

Are these made by anybody? the bottom channel that the winder attaches to to wind the window.

If not I have been in touch with a bloke who can make them, he now makes them for several different makes and out of stainless. example 2 x MG bottom channels £34
All he needs are a few samples to CNC make the press parts.

I'd be amazed if anyone makes them specifically for our cars, unless they happen to be the same as (or modifiable from) something else. I'm not actually sure whether I need any for the current project, but then that would be HC so already muddying the waters if (a) they're different and (b) you were talking about HB in your original post. Does the lower volume make a lot of difference to the price, do you think?

Hi Fred,
Yes, that's the part.

I forgot to add , once he has some samples it takes about a week to get into manufacture.

I phoned the bloke up today, he explained the basic channels are all the same, the only part he needs to tool up for are the guides on different cars and the position on the channel, he also has 5 classic cars and he is keen to make these parts.
Because it's only the guide he needs to sort it's why he can keep the price down.

He only needs a couple of samples of each type to make new from.

That's an impressive list. It seems that he is making other things than window channels when 'Smiths heater parts' and "Lucas dash knobs' are on the list.
