RDG, HB 1600....the saga begins

Postby tony west » Fri Jul 16, 2010 11:20 pm

Just thought I would post a couple of photos to show progress so far !!, the engine has been rebored, rad rebuilt ,new dizzy, s/h oil pump, new valve springs, new clutch and coil....and a very emptied wallet !.
So Ive progressed from a knackered engine that wouldnt run properly to nice new shiny engine ...that wont run properly !!!!!!!!!!, it wont even tick over on all four cylinders let alone rev !, Ive even threatened it with ebay if it doesnt behave!!!!!!!!!.......so much for returning to an old comfort zone , Ive never had this sort of problem with any of my previous vivas and yes all the obvious areas have been checked over and over......anyway if there was a competition for the biggest engine hoist ..............

Tony

Have you put new leads on it? I had a problem on the way to Billing last week and even changed the plugs at the side of the road because it was not running on 4 (it did when cold - ish). Once new leads on, it is fine. I still have carb issues, but the ignition is good.

I suppose the other issue with the OHC is that the belt is spot on. You know these engines well, so excuse the "teaching Granny" bit.

Hi Maz,
good to see your 1600 coming on well !!, both plugs and leads are new !, infact the only bits not are the starter, carb and fuel pump !!!.

Now thats magic, you'll like this, not a lot.

Thanks Tony. It has taken about 4 years to get here so far and it isn't anywhere near finished - but at least it is one colour!

Are you in on Saturday or even Thurs / Fri evening? If the car is at home, can I pop over and have a look/listen? Doubt I have the Paul Daniel's effect, but I'm very curious as to what it is doing - and the latter is going to be hard to describe in an email in any detail!

Cheers
