big hello and help please

Postby eurorob » Sun Aug 01, 2010 10:10 am

just to say hi to all and also to ask for a bit of help. a few years ago we aquired a viva hb race car, it sadly been sat for a long time untouched since its last race back in the 70s i believe, its in reasonable condition concidering its age. we had a customer show some interest in it last weekend and he got it into our heads that it may be worth a vast amount if restored to its former glory and possibly used as a heritage race car.now we dont want to go jumpin 2 feet in and spending lots of time and money restoring the car if it not going to be worth while, not just on a money point of view but also because wed love to race it against other period race cars, if any one has any ideas to what its restored value may be then it would be much apreciated, car is as follows:
viva hb never been road registered (was just built from factory to race tarmac touring car races)
its blue with an orange band down the side of it with blue banded wheels
the engine is a blydenstein 2.0 fully race preped
rollcage and corbeau bucket seat
the car was driven by a well known driver on its last outing and was slightly damaged
i will try to get some pics up of the car in the next week
we also heard from the previous owner that the heritage museum was interested in this car a few years ago but wanted to exibit it in the condition its in now, i believe it needs to be but back to its former glory but would need to know if its going to be worth while, any help would be greatly apreciated.
(also to let you know, the customer that came to us races around 6 period f1 cars and is greatly into the heritage race scene, he valued the car DONE at around 30-40k but believed it may need 15k putting into it) is he right or is it just a dream???

Pictures will help!!!!

To restore a car to "its former glory" look to spend mega bucks and in the case of a HB a long time to look for parts that don't exist, unless your very rich!!!

What's would it be worth in "former glory", no idea, and I am not going to guess as one of my pet hates in life is trying to make a car worth more than it is, but I will say on average Vauxhall's are worth 1/20th of escorts, so go find the most expensive escort in the world and divide that by 20, then on a good day with the right person willing to blow their cash, it might just sell but most likely not. Your more likely to spend more on the restoration that it would be worth at the end of the day, there is no profit to be made in Viva's, unless your selling parts to someone who is restoring a Viva

In terms of its value as a racer, as long at the right names are attached to it, then I would see why the Heritage centre would want it, alas they don't have space to display 50% of their cars, and have been known to sell good cars off to make space on this months whim.

I always feel a car is always best in its natural environment, on the road, and in the case of this "always been a racer" back on the track. Gathering dust in a museum is not a good way for a car to see out its life :(

OHH and to my knowledge no Viva HB has ever ever sold for more than £7k So this £30 - 40k line is a pure guess based upon escort prices I suspect.

many thanks for that, never realy heard much about the vivas, it was my dad who always wanted a hb when he was younger and so was his impulse to buy the car, i think he would still be interested in doing the car as weve completed a few interesting retorations for customers in the last 2yrs and hes realy enjoyed them, i will get pics up as soon as i can thanks again

The colour scheme rings a bell. Pretty sure we have seen it before on this forum when it was dragged out of a garage. Be interesting to see if its the same one. It was a long time ago.
