Bottom of the driver’s door has rotted and the outer skin is not attached at the bottom any more so metal plates have been bonded over the holes and then the door skin bonded to the inner frame

Work finished in engine bay

First job was to clean the sump
When the oil was first drained it was so thick and congealed that nothing came out when the sump plug was removed, i had to poke a hole through a thick crust at the bottom of the sump to let the oil out.

I didn’t want to remove the sump, so to clean it a little tool was made to put through the sump plug hole and scrape the sludge out, once the thick stuff was removed from the bottom petrol was poured through the dipstick and left to soak in the sump over night.

After soaking overnight compressed air was used to blast the petrol around the inside of the engine, this was repeated until the petrol came out clean. An endoscopic camera was used to inspect engine after and it looks spotless ready for new oil

Radiator removed and flushed out, also flushed the engine out

New heater hoses and a used top hose fitted

New oil and filter

New plugs, points, air filter, fan belt and thermostat fitted

Dynamo wasn’t charging but a jiggle of the control box wires and it is now working again

Heater fan, wipers, lights, fuel gauge are all working

Master cylinder removed and rebuilt, all the brakes are now done on the car

Battery clamp made as it didn’t have one

Compression readings are amazingly close for an engine of that age thats been stood.

Lowest is just over 140psi and the highest is about 155psi so all within 10 percent of each other
