chassis plate

hello just spent the last year welding up my viva ha, and ive realised i must of thrown my chassis plate away when i was welding that area!! luckily the MOT man was nice enough to MOT it on the log book but saids i will need one. Am i allowed to or is there anyway i can get another chassis plate made up?

any help much appriciated cheers

I didn't think the MOT regulations required any such thing for a car of that age. According to this page (http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_630.htm) the VIN plate is required on all vehicles first used on or after 1st August 1980. It's possible that page is a little out of date, but I don't think they tend to backdate any new requirements.

I did once have a similar conversation about not being able to find the VIN number. In that case they happened to be wrong (as it's on top of the dash on HC, just like it was on all the cars in their showroom) but it didn't matter.

droopsnoot you are correct :D , this vehicle has no legal issue with not showing a VIN plate, however if it were pulled for a VIC check it would be hard to prove its identity and knowing the VOSA guys make your life difficult.

Replacement reproduction plates are available from eBay form time to time (not cheap!)

is there a chassis number stamped on a viva HA or is the vin plate the only identification the car has? he said to me he needed to take a number off the car itself?

It's on the v5c, not stamped on the shell only the plate

a few years back i was asked for a chassis plate for the mot so i just bought a set of stamps from machine mart and knocked one up on a piece of metal strip pop riveted to the car job done
