If its a 1256 engine it will have 1256 cast in the side of the block. Dout it will be a 1057 engine! Early autos were 1159, but later ones were 1256.

The vehicle details for SXE 579L are:
Date of Liability 01 07 1980
Date of First Registration 09 03 1973
Year of Manufacture 1973
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1159cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLUE

As you can see DVLA says 1159.

That chassis number you gave dosent make sense either, check here, http://www.vauxhallviva.com/?page_id=290

Have another look at it. According to that its a 1256, and a 1974. Some photos would help.

At the moment just changing Boiler in house from back boiler to condensing(taking up plenty of time)i will try to get my Viva out of the garage soon went in this morning these are the numbers i can find.
On the plate found 93369 DOM 015862 18L 1X3 274 395 400 430 501 629.

On the engine found 8822903 WM 23117/2 25 L1 just after the WM i'm not sure if there's another letter or number or a mark in the casting.

On the head found 2693420 23573A

It also has a Zenith carbrettor on it with the markings 341 VT

Thanks for all your'e help Jim.The bodywork looks pretty solid in engine bay and boot area will need plating were spare wheel is and need painting at some time but still looking forward to making a start soon it is a light blue colour even looks as if at some point it could have been metallic paint not sure if that would have been the case back in the seventies.

If it had the 1159 that the DVLA say it would be a red block and a 150CD Stromberg. Quite possible its had an engine change in its life, and/or a carb change.

274=Front Disc Brakes
395=Elec Water Temp Gauge
400=Heavy Duty Alternator
430=Elec Heated Rear Window
501=GM Auto Box
629=9/35 Rear axle option(not supposed to be available with code 501??)

Carnt find the 18L code, the 1X3 appears to be Onyx PVC trim.

Wonder if the 18L is actually 1BL, which is Aqua Starmist, which is a Blue colour.

Hope that helps, or does it just confuse things more.?
