2300 SL Sport, restoration begins

Postby escort89 » Sun Jun 07, 2015 8:36 pm

Today is the day that we (finally) start restoration work to the auto SL Sport. :) Never had an auto so I may need some tehnical assistance from people...
With Billing only a few weeks away we need to get a (long) list of bits that we will (inevitably) need.
Needs quite a few bits of welding doing so it won't be ready this year.First bits will be sills :(

What's your interior like? If it's blue I have a few bits, door cards, arm rests, plastic sill covers and a perfect (from memory) rear seat. The seat might be more basic than yours but a good source for repair material. I also have non genuine sills, really cover panels, but that's probably all you will be able to find. I've also got a rear lower valence.

I hope I can make it as interesting as some of the others I've read.

I read through your resto, nice work. Gives me an idea of the time scale. Love that colour!

It's all there, in blue, was covered in an inch of dust! The door cards are rippled & the top vinyl bits - are IN BITS. One seat at least will need repair as the vinyl has disintegrated in places. Anything would be appreciated. Definately will be needing sills. Last year they were always on auction sites, when I didn't need them. Now there's none. PM me & we can discuss, thanks :)

Well, didn't take long to need assistance. The spring is shot on the gear lever & I'm pretty sure the inhibitor switch bit shouldn't look like this... Does anyone have a picture of it complete? I have a spare box but it's not on it...

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you got the HC parts manual? There's quite a reasonably exploded diagram in the back of that, though it shows the switch from the other side.

Thanks for that. We have all the paper manuals & I forgot I had the Parts Manual on disc! Makes more sense now :)
Have spent the week tracing & replacing melted wiring, now all the electrics work. :D
