So it's one of those Brabhams, a replica...

Still a nice looking car but not worth the 9.5k asking price . . .

It would be like buying an supposed AVO escort and finding out it hasn't got a type 49 shell . . .

Agree with you Mitch. I spoke to the guy might go to look at it just out of curiosity as not far away. But i never thought they did do a 4 door brahbam from the factory

Just for accuracy here, they were never factory made cars, they were dealer conversion (or DIY fi you bought the kit form a dealer). These cars are always subject to conversation and strong opinions.

That's correct, and what's more confusing is that a DIY conversion could just have be a set of stripes or a carb swap to begin with and added to as the owner bought the parts.. There was no 'set specification' on the level of conversion.

So, in reality there are no Brabham replicas because if someone gathers together the parts and does a DIY conversion today then it's just as genuine as a DIY conversion done in 1969, just 50 years later.

I think Adrian Miller still sells the stripes if anyone wants to raise the value of their HB....

Just to clarify that is of course David's and I's opinion not the clubs official view on the matter as the club doesn't have an official view on the matter that I am aware of?

Yes as a kid we called them go faster stripes ) but it does look a good car so will make the effort to go see it. It's also down to personal taste . I just prefer 2 door cars. Although I owned a 4 door HB in the 90s. It was accident damaged and free. Went down to Folkestone to get it. Repaired it and sold it on . Must lock for the reg to see if still on the road

True....

I suppose if you can verify that the conversion was done in period then possibly a premium could be paid for the ability to claim it is an 'original' conversion. My opinion again!

I think personally, if it has some Brabham gear on it, it's worth a little more than a standard '90, and if it has the full kit that was available then it's worth more again, regardless of when it was fitted and who by.

But, if it has the kit on it, plus a dealer receipt for the kit that was bought at the original purchase of the car, I would say it would be worth top money.

But still not 9.5k

Saying that, IF I have won the lottery last night I'd buy it for close to 9k just to have it cause it looks great.

I must go check my numbers :D :D :D
