Duff instrument lights

Postby dann01 » Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:31 am

Over the last week or so, one by one, my instruments and lights have stopped working... I am thinking voltage regualtor.

Ideas anyone?

Probably the regulator, although you would have thought that they would all fail at once. Possible the printed circuit on the back of the instruments failing?

Now there's a pleasant thought. Oh I relish the prospect of having the entire dash out... One thing I do know. When I do the Beast, all the instruments and lights are gonna be hard wired, and not reliant on some flimsy bit of laminated copper. And the instrument cluster will be on a bezel that comes out from the front, and not the back.

Instrument lights do not run from the regulator but the 12V feed !

So I wonder if their feed is run in line and they are switched from the neg side? Cos they have all gone out one by one, which would suggest one has blown, and they have gone out sequencially starting with the right hand indicator moving to the left... Unless, as Pete suggests, the laminated circuit board/paper has decided it's had enough and won't play no more?

Are they just coming loose from the back of the dash and failing to make contact? Or are the bulbs actually blown?

They are switched on the neg side.
From memory they are all fed from the same track on the flexi pcb.

Is the back of the dash getting damp ?
It could just be a strange coincidence you know!
