There are two wires running through that clip on mine. I think I can see the one that is green & white which is the indicator. The other one on mine is purple & black which is the horn.

Assuming that's the delco alternator and the wire is the indicator then this view of the back end of the alternator might help, where it should go is marked IND.

I've just re-read the earlier post and realised if the light is on - lit - as opposed to always off, then it's most unlikely the INDicator wire (brown/yellow) is detached, if it's still thought to be from the alternator then it's more likely the wire is off the BAT terminal of the alternator, also shown, the absence of which would leave the light always on; this is the sense wire which detects battery state, and would be coloured just brown. I've an HB and not an HC, and my alternator is a recent fitment, but the other end of that - not the alternator BAT end - I've simply fitted a ring type terminal and connected it under the + battery lead where it connects to the solenoid, so it's always live and unfused.

hope this helps (and doesn't confuse matters)

Doesn't look thick enough to be the BAT wire, though, to me. What colour is the insulation when you clean it up?

Looking down the left hand side of that diagram, you have the battery, then the alternator, then EP, then the next two are the two horns.

Horn wire seems to be purple/black, so if that grey might be faded purple then you're probably correct.

I'm just re-reading this thread and thought a correction was worthwhile; from information in an earlier post I made, a few months back, based on fresh information and findings at the time rather than from memory here -with the BAT connection unmade, the ignition warning lamp is not lit at any time, before the engine is running when ignition turned on and after the engine is running, rather than the opposite thought above.
