Viva ha ignition light fault

Postby Baseyboy123 » Fri Nov 06, 2015 11:00 pm

Hello, hopefully someone can help me. The red ignition light on my viva keeps lighting up whilst I'm driving, it seems to be ticking over nicely but I don't know if it is anything to worry about or if it will affect the car in any way. It would be much appreciated if someone knows.

Cheers

Does it have a dynamo, or alternator?
If its dynamo, and you have lots of electrical things on, e.g. lights, heater, radio, and its only slow speeds you are driving, i.e. in traffic, the light will glow as the dynamo carnt keep up with the demand.
If its an alternator could be the fan belt needs tensioning(also goes for the dynmo).
Could also be alternator on way out, not supplying enough charge.
Chances are its just the fan belt needs changing/tensioning.

Hi Peter

Yes it has a dynamo fitted, I did have the lights on at the time but I was traveling at about 30-40mph. I will try the fan belt I.e tension it and if needs be replace it. So other than that you don't think it's a major problem.

Other possibility is the control box on the inner wing needs cleaning, points resetting. Think Haynes manual tells you how to do this. Dout its a major problem.
