The conversion kits from both Accuspark and PowerSpark seem to get both good and bad comments from various owners. I would suggest reading this thread as well.

I can vouch for the Accuspark unit, I fitted it a while back with a replacement 12v coil and bypassed the ballast system. Very pleased with the result.

Hi Shaun,I fitted accuspark electronic ignition to my 2 HC 1256,initially the car would ‘nt Start so also bought the green coil as advised, the main area u need to focus on is isolating in ballast wire in the loom wiring of the car, there was a brilliant email from the Northern Ireland regional secretary on this site, I think it’s under “electrical section”it explains in picture form how to isolate the ballast wire, both cars run really smoothly and less maintenance, good luck, vivapete

The instructions re. bypassing the ballast are in 1972nail's link as above - which is what I followed. Dead simple, even I managed to do it first time round.

Yes, my link in the post above is the one mentioned here.

I just carried out the same conversion on a beautiful tuned 2300 Magnum Coupe today. A 180 mile round trip across the border into Southern Ireland with a few new ignition parts and a multimeter made a very nice day out in the middle of my Halloween holidays.

The owner couldn't believe how easy it was to do the job and how quickly it was done. He had been running Lumenition electronic ignition on the standard AC Delco coil for the past 10 years and earlier this year the car started giving severe problems. The symptoms were cutting out in traffic, loss of power on long climbs, misfiring after idling for a while and poor hot starting. This had become so bad that the car had been left in the garage since the beginning of the year and not attended any shows.

After discussions with the 'carless' owner at a show a couple of months ago I had diagnosed that the coil was breaking down when hot and giving a poor spark, so a plan was hatched to prepare for a mercy repair mission during the holiday period.

So today a swap over to 12v and a new Accuspark RED coil seems to have solved the problem. The owner could not believe the difference in the driveability of the car and we concluded that the problem of a dodgy coil had been there for a lot longer and had only got to a very noticeable level this year. New plugs and new plug leads were added as a precaution as I had them with me anyway.

The GREEN coil is the correct coil if you retain the resistance wire so I would keep an eye on it as it may well break down when it gets hot if you have bypassed the resistance wire.

Hi guys, looking to do this conversion on my 1256 hc
I'd like to replace the coil as well. So if I buy this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Viv ... SwHoFXvYor
Will the red coil be the one I need?
