Ha viva alternator upgrade

Postby Alank841 » Thu May 17, 2018 1:48 pm

Hi
I’ve got a HA viva that I am currently in the process of restoring and have noticed the voltage regulator is missing for the dynamo,, what would be my best option? Try and source a new or second hand one? Or do an alternator conversion?
If I was to go down the convertion route is there an alternator off a specific vehicle that would bolt straight on to the existing brackets?

Dynamator is a 45amp alternator, that is inside a dynamo casing. Bolts stralght on to existing mount on engine block, with no wiring modification. Use with a "dummy" RB340 regulator box from AES. They look good, performs well, and so far, for me, been very reliable. Recommended.

www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk
Their"dummy" reg box, RB340 is £45 This well made item has a fuse inside it to protect the charging system.
But their own make of alternator in a Dynamo casing, the "WOSP" Dynator is expensive at £410. Whilst the "Dynamator" which is the same thing different make, from BB Classics on Ebay is £144.95 post free. Thats what I've gone for on three of my classics now.

Ok thanks for all the info,, i want to keep the budget down at this early stage so I’ll probably stick to the original dynamo,, so what voltage regulator do I need to run the original dynamo?

RB340 - 22 amp and it must be a 22 amp one. 25 amp used on the bigger dynamo on bigger cars. If you use incorrect one, the battery will "boil" up.
