Anyone know about heater fans?

As I continue to move forward, today I was considering the heater fan. I have three to look at, one didn't work at all but two are working.

Here is what happened. there are three wires going into the fan.

1. Black with a blue tracer

2. Green

3. Green with a yellow tracer.

So, I hooked up the battery assuming that the black was the ground wire even though I have never seen a black ground wire with a tracer.

so, black to ground - touched green and it started working

black to ground and green/yellow - nothing.

Now this is bizarre in and of itself as there is continuity when I touch the two green ends and they go to the same junction but only onw connection works.

Then, trying another fan, I accidently touched the green/yellow to the black/blue while touching power to the green and the fan started going much faster.

I am perplexed. Obviously at some level this doesn't matter as I know it works and when I hook it up as per the harness it should be fine but, I sure would love to understand.

I also think see a green 'tube' that I assume is some sort of thermal break?

anyone

thanks again!

The green tube is a resistor for the low speed, https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/ ... rder_2.pdf this may help if the link works.

thanks for this!

Tonight's question, is the switch for the fan itself. Is it grey or is it supposed to be black?

Anybody know the value and rating of this resistor- (for an HC) :?:

Haynes Manual says wiper motor on highspeed takes 2 Amp - so V/I =R 12/2 = 6 ohms so it says low speed takes 1 Amp I would say the resistor is 6 ohms?
Dissipating 1X6 = 6 Watts so resister needs to be rated better than 6 Watts
